Amitabh Bachchan Takes Social Media Break on Doctors' Advice, Tells Fans He Needs Rest

Amitabh Bachchan told fans on October 21, 2026 that he is taking a break from social media after doctors advised him to rest and recuperate, according to his posts on X and his blog, reported by The Indian Express, Bollywood Hungama and other outlets on October 22.

What he told fans

In post T 5889,10,11,12 on X, Bachchan wrote: "Apologies .. I beg your forgiveness; I've been advised to take some time off for a few days to rest and recuperate, so I'm not able to write anything." He shared the same message in Hindi. On his blog, alongside Dussehra greetings, he wrote that he was "under very strict rest and recuperation .. so am not allowed to communicate".

The knee injury — no confirmed link

Earlier in October, Bachchan had told the Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 audience that he slipped and injured his left knee during a shoot, delivering his opening monologue seated. The Indian Express noted that the connection between that injury and the social media break is not established — and Starlight does not claim one. No cause for the doctor-advised rest has been confirmed publicly.

Work continues

His upcoming work is so far unaffected: he returns as Ashwatthama in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel, plays Raghu/Guruji in Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, and continues hosting KBC 18, outlets reported. Last month, one of his Tumblr posts had sparked retirement speculation, which he addressed as a misunderstanding.

A ritual fans will notice

The sign-off T 5889,10,11,12 follows his signature style of numbering posts and carrying numbers across days — a ritual his followers recognize, which made the pause especially noticeable. The message came a day after Dussehra, a festival he also acknowledged in the blog post.
