The B-52s Get Their Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

The B-52s have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The band received the 2,861st star on the famous sidewalk on Thursday, 29 October 2026, in the Recording category, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced, in a late-morning ceremony outside Amoeba Music at 6212 Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
A party five decades in the making
Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson and Keith Strickland all spoke at the ceremony, MyNewsLA reported. They were joined by guest speakers Fred Armisen and the pioneering all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, with Walk of Famer and radio personality Richard Blade hosting as emcee, according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. The ceremony was streamed live on the Walk of Fame website.
“We started this band just to entertain ourselves with our friends, and I don’t think any of us imagined that one day we’d get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Strickland said, MyNewsLA reported. Wilson recalled the band’s unlikely beginnings in Athens, Georgia, telling the crowd: “When we first started making music in a former mortuary … in Athens, Georgia, none of us could have envisioned this moment.”
Schneider brought the laughs. “I’m so happy that I’m in a band because I have no marketable skills after dropping out of college,” he said, according to MyNewsLA. Pierson reflected on the group’s history, including the death in 1985, aged 32, of founding guitarist Ricky Wilson, Cindy Wilson’s brother, from complications from AIDS. Strickland, originally the band’s drummer, later took over as lead guitarist. “Our band now is the best, most talented band that makes us shine and rock and what we are today,” Pierson said.
From Athens to “Love Shack”
The B-52s formed in Athens, Georgia, in 1976, and have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, according to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce. Their 1979 debut was followed by 1989’s Cosmic Thing, source of “Love Shack” and “Roam”, the Athens Banner-Herald reported. Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said honouring the band was “a celebration of their unforgettable music, fearless spirit, and the nostalgia they’ve created for generations of fans”, adding: “Their unique sound and energy have truly become part of Hollywood’s musical history.”
The timing was neatly choreographed. The ceremony came one day before the band was due to perform in Chula Vista, and two days before concluding The Cosmic De-Evolution Tour in Palm Desert, MyNewsLA reported.
