Less than a day after winning the first World Series title in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers took their celebration on the road. On Thursday night, the champions carried the Commissioner’s Trophy onto the field at Lambeau Field in Green Bay during the Green Bay Packers’ game against the Carolina Panthers, and outfielder Sal Frelick marked the occasion with a Lambeau Leap into the crowd, the New York Post and USA Today reported.

The trophy comes to Lambeau

Milwaukee had clinched the title on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, taking the series four games to one. The New York Post reported that the Brewers then travelled back to Wisconsin in time for Thursday’s “Thursday Night Football” game, arriving at Lambeau Field carrying the trophy they had won less than 24 hours earlier.

Pitcher Brandon Woodruff led the group onto the field carrying the Commissioner’s Trophy, USA Today reported. Teammates including Christian Yelich and Frelick followed him out of the tunnel to loud cheers from the sold-out crowd as the game moved between the first and second quarters. Later, the players were shown on the stadium video board watching from a suite, wearing cheesehead hats marked with the word “champion”, the New York Post reported.

Frelick takes the leap

The most memorable moment belonged to Frelick. USA Today reported that the right fielder tried a Lambeau Leap, jumping towards the front row and raising a hand in the air as fans gathered around him in celebration. The New York Post reported that he performed the leap to the delight of the crowd.

The leap is one of American football’s most famous traditions: Packers players have celebrated touchdowns by jumping into the stands at Lambeau Field for more than 30 years. Packers News reported that several Brewers players took Lambeau leaps during the appearance, raising the trophy in the air to a loud ovation.

A Wisconsin celebration keeps rolling

USA Today reported that the team’s famous racing sausages also held a contest on the field later in the game. On the field itself, the Packers beat the Panthers 27-19, Packers News reported. The Brewers’ title ended a wait stretching back to the club’s only previous World Series appearance in 1982, the New York Post reported, and the celebration was set to continue on Friday with a championship parade in Milwaukee.
