For years, Jay-Z has been the man behind the Super Bowl halftime show, choosing who gets the biggest stage in music. Now, the stage is finally his. Apple Music, the NFL and Roc Nation announced on Monday, October 26, that the rapper will headline the Apple Music Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show on February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Announced during Monday Night Football

The news broke during halftime of the Dallas Cowboys versus Philadelphia Eagles game on Monday Night Football, with Apple Music teasing the reveal on social media with the line "GOAT's out of the bag," alongside a black-and-white clip of Jay-Z sitting in a stadium seat. Reuters reported the NFL confirmed the booking on Monday.

In a statement carried by Variety and the official announcement, Jay-Z framed the moment as the latest chapter of a three-decade career. "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," he said. "Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."

Goodell: "I had just one request"

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the booking fulfils a wish he has held since the league first partnered with Roc Nation. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," Goodell said in a statement reported by Reuters and JustJared. "I couldn't be more excited for fans around the world to experience the artistry, creativity and cultural impact he will bring to the Super Bowl stage."

Oliver Schusser, Apple's Vice President of Music and International Content, said Jay-Z's impact on global music culture is "profound" and "undeniable."

A first, after years behind the scenes

Jay-Z's company Roc Nation has produced the Super Bowl halftime show since 2019, and he has played a key role in selecting each year's performer — but he has never headlined it himself, USA Today noted. His wife Beyoncé headlined the show in 2013, and Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny headlined the most recent edition, Reuters reported.

The announcement caps a landmark year for the 56-year-old rapper. 2026 has been celebrated as "JAY-Z 30," marking 30 years since his debut album Reasonable Doubt, with sold-out anniversary concerts in New York, London, Paris and Los Angeles. The official announcement notes he is a 25-time Grammy winner and the first hip-hop artist inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The game will air on ESPN, ABC and Disney+, with streaming on NFL+, USA Today reported. No guest performers have been announced yet.
