Jenna Ortega has said she plans to step away from television once Wednesday comes to an end, telling Vogue she does not want her career to become a numbers game.

“I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while,” Ortega said in the interview, as reported by The Times of India and The Telegraph on 25 October. The actress, who began acting as a child with her debut in the CBS sitcom Rob in 2012, has recently wrapped shooting on the third season of the Netflix hit and wants to explore film offers instead.

Ortega was equally frank about her relationship with public reception. She told Vogue she does not watch her own films, read reviews or check box office figures, even when her team sends them to her. “It (reviews and box office numbers) would send me into a psychosis of some sort because I don’t want it to become a numbers thing,” she said.

She has also been pulling back from social media, blaming the flood of artificial intelligence-generated content online. “So much of what you see on there nowadays is just garbage AI and we all look at ourselves too much,” she said, according to the reports.

The comments land at the peak of a television career that began in childhood, with roles in Jane the Virgin and Disney’s Stuck in the Middle before Wednesday turned her into a global star. The first season, released in 2022, became Netflix’s most popular English-language series of all time with more than 252 million views, according to Netflix’s Tudum Top 10 rankings. The second season followed in 2025, with Ortega returning to Nevermore Academy alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Christina Ricci, Gwendoline Christie and the rest of the cast.

Reports say the third season, which wrapped production on 30 September, will follow Wednesday into her senior year at Nevermore, though Netflix has not announced a release date. Meanwhile Ortega is promoting her next film, Klara and the Sun, directed by Taika Waititi and adapted from Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, in which she plays Klara.

If her Vogue remarks are a guide, that film chapter is exactly where her focus is heading: away from the small screen, and away from the numbers altogether.
