Singer-songwriter Julie Falcon will perform the national anthem before Game 5 of the World Series at Tropicana Field, USA Today reported, as the Tampa Bay Rays try to keep their season alive against the Milwaukee Brewers.

A series still alive

The Rays arrived at Game 5 trailing the series 3-1, USA Today reported, after an epic 12-inning battle in Game 4 gave them their first win of the series, 4-3 over Milwaukee. The Brewers had won the first three games and were looking for a sweep, leading 3-2 heading into the bottom of the 12th inning on Tuesday, the outlet reported.

A Brewers error put the game-tying run on base to start the inning, USA Today reported. Jonny DeLuca then hit an RBI single to even the score at 3-3, before Ben Williamson’s single won it for Tampa Bay.

Both teams are seeking their first World Series championship, USA Today reported. Milwaukee’s only previous World Series appearance was in 1982, while Tampa Bay has reached the series twice before, in 2008 and 2020. Game 5 was scheduled for Wednesday, 28 October at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, the outlet reported.

Who is Julie Falcon?

Falcon shared her excitement herself. “omg im singing the national anthem at the WORLD SERIES tomorrow everyone,” she posted on her Instagram Stories, according to USA Today. “TURN YOUR TV ON!!!!!”

Falcon was born in Germany and learned a love of music from her father, USA Today reported. Her website says she wrote her first song to express appreciation for her father after he had a serious surgery. She attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and performed the national anthem for multiple NFL games this season, the outlet reported.

She follows a run of well-known performers in the anthem role during this series, USA Today reported: R&B star Ne-Yo sang before Game 4, country singer Carly Pearce before Game 3, actress and singer Kylie Cantrall before Game 2, and country star and former American Idol contestant Mickey Guyton before Game 1.

The first pitch

Broadcaster Dewayne Staats will throw out the first pitch at Game 5, USA Today reported. Staats is the Rays’ longtime play-by-play announcer and has been with the team for 29 seasons. His Major League Baseball career spans 51 years, the outlet reported.

What comes next

If Tampa Bay wins Game 5, the series returns to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Friday, 30 October, with a Game 7, if necessary, on Saturday, 31 October, USA Today reported. For Falcon, the moment comes first: one song, before the first pitch.
