Natasha Lyonne Tells Fans She's 'Not MAGA' After Her Trump Post Sparks Confusion

Natasha Lyonne moved quickly to clear the air this week after a cryptic social-media reaction to US President Donald Trump's post praising Elon Musk left fans asking whether the actress had switched political sides, Geo TV reported. Asked directly on X whether she was now a supporter of Trump, the 47-year-old Poker Face star answered with two words: "Not maga."

How the confusion started

Geo TV reported that the controversy began on October 19, when Lyonne reacted to Trump's post thanking Musk for donating SpaceX stock to American children through the president's "TRUMP ACCOUNTS" initiative — reposting it with a rocket emoji and a saluting emoji before deleting the post. Separately, USA Today reported that Lyonne had called Vice President JD Vance a "sketchy mofo" after his remarks at a Republican campaign rally in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and later wrote "prefer trump" in a quoted reply on X on October 20 — a mix of posts that left her followers thoroughly confused.

Her clarification

USA Today reported that when one fan asked, "So is Natasha Lyonne MAGA now or am I misreading her posts?", Lyonne replied simply: "Not maga." The Tab reported that she also posted a photo of herself wearing a "Make America Gay Again" hat alongside pride flags, writing "sorry – thought these were just murmurs into the ether – didn't realize it was a whole thing." OK Magazine added that she suggested she would remove the controversial posts, writing "Fine, I'll delete them, but this was funny."

A record that confused no one before

The Tab noted that Lyonne has been vocal about her opposition to Trump for years — she told NYLON in 2016 "don't vote for Trump" and publicly supported Kamala Harris during the 2024 election. The Orange Is the New Black and Russian Doll alum, 47, was promoting nothing new; this was purely a social-media moment that got bigger than she expected, Geo TV observed.
