Neve Campbell Confirms She Will Return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8

Neve Campbell has confirmed she will return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8, telling the Associated Press that the sequel is in the pipeline and that she will be in it. The confirmation came on Monday 2 November, while Campbell was in London for the launch of the second season of Black Doves.
Asked about her upcoming projects, Campbell listed Scream 8 among them. “I’ve got two shows that I’m developing. One I’ve sold, and Scream 8. So, you know that’s in the pipeline as well,” she said. Asked for details, she replied: “No. You know I could never tell you anything about Scream 8.” Then she added: “I’ll be in it.”
A return after a long absence
Campbell has played Sidney in six of the seven Scream films. She did not appear in Scream 6 (2023) after a pay dispute, calling the decision “very difficult”. She said the offer “did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise”. She later said she thought she might never return. She came back for Scream 7 after the studio pitched her a story following Sidney into her new life — “it’s the reason that I jumped on board,” she told Entertainment Tonight. Williamson has said Campbell herself asked him to direct.
Why Scream 7 made an eighth film likely
Scream 7 premiered at the Paramount Pictures studio lot on 25 February 2026 and opened in cinemas in the United States on 27 February. It took $97.2 million worldwide in its opening weekend — the biggest opening in the franchise’s history — and passed $200 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Scream film. The film moved Sidney to Pine Grove, Indiana, where she lives as Sidney Evans, a wife and mother whose teenage daughter becomes Ghostface’s target, and brought back Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Matthew Lillard as Stu Macher.
What is known about Scream 8
The film is in development at Spyglass Media Group, with Paramount distributing. Poker Face showrunners Lilla and Nora Zuckerman are writing the screenplay, Deadline reported on 31 March 2026. Kevin Williamson, who directed Scream 7, has said he will not write or direct it.
What is still unannounced
No director is attached to Scream 8. Courteney Cox, who has played Gale Weathers in all seven films, said at the Toronto International Film Festival in September that she would like the job, but there is no indication she has been offered it. No wider cast, no production start date and no release date have been announced. Campbell is the only cast member confirmed so far — and only by her own words.
