Parker Posey turned a Monday morning visit to NBC’s Today into one of the day’s most talked-about television moments — first with a misheard question that left the studio in laughter, and then with a surprise announcement about her next horror film.

A misheard question steals the show

Posey, 57, best known to recent audiences as Victoria Ratliff in The White Lotus, stopped by the morning show on Monday 26 October, where she reunited with host Craig Melvin, Just Jared reported. The pair already had history: in 2025, Posey recreated her character’s famous “Piper, no!” line with Melvin in a moment that went viral.

This time, the laughter started when Melvin tried to steer the chat toward her horror work. “Before I let you get out of here, we’ve got to talk horror,” he said — but Posey initially misheard the question as something far more inappropriate, Just Jared reported. She burst into laughter as she explained what she thought she had heard, while Melvin quickly clarified that he had said “horror,” even spelling the word out before admitting: “I did not enunciate well.”

As the two tried to get back on track, Posey fanned herself with one of Melvin’s cue cards, and he joked: “Okay, well, now it’s even more awkward than usual.” She also complimented him on his recent recognition in People’s Sexiest Man Alive Readers’ Choice poll, and colleague Carson Daly eventually helped move the segment along.

The bigger surprise: she has left ‘Sleepover’

The light-hearted interview then produced a genuine piece of film news. When Melvin brought up Posey’s previously announced role in the upcoming horror thriller Sleepover, she revealed that she is no longer attached to the project, Just Jared reported.

“I’m not doing it,” Posey told him. A surprised Melvin checked his notes, which indicated that she was supposed to star in the movie. “No. I’m not doing it anymore,” she clarified, confirming that she had originally been involved and adding only: “Something came up.” She shared no further details about why she stepped away.

Just Jared noted that the film itself has not been announced as cancelled, and Posey did not suggest that her departure would affect its production. Sleepover had been expected in 2027.

What she is doing instead

Posey is currently promoting her new reality competition series The Mob, alongside her upcoming movie Wild Horse Nine, Just Jared reported — and for viewers, the segment was a reminder that live television still delivers its best moments unplanned.
