Abu Dhabi's comedy calendar has a heavyweight addition this weekend: global stand-up star Russell Peters returns to Etihad Arena on Yas Island on Sunday, 25 October, as the third Abu Dhabi Comedy Season continues its packed October-to-February run.

The show

Doors open at 6:30pm and the show starts at 8:00pm, according to lovin.co, with tickets starting from AED 275. The night will be a phone-free experience, letting the audience stay fully present for Peters' trademark mix of sharp cultural observations, fast-paced delivery and unscripted crowd work. The Canadian star has built an international following through observational humour and spontaneous interaction, with hit specials including Outsourced, Red, White and Brown and Deported.

The comedian

Long before social media became an essential tool for comedians, Peters was attracting millions of viewers through clips of his stand-up routines, according to The National. The Canadian, whose parents emigrated from India, became internationally recognised for his observations about immigrant families, accents and the misunderstandings between cultures. Audience interaction remains central to his performances, with Peters frequently turning conversations with spectators into some of the evening's biggest laughs.

The season

The Abu Dhabi Comedy Season is now in its third edition and has previously welcomed comedy giants including Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Trevor Noah and Bill Burr, according to The National. This season's line-up mixes international stars and regional favourites: Mo Amer is scheduled for 6 November and Maz Jobrani for 7 November, both at Etihad Arena, while Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges and Egyptian performer Mina Nader also feature in the season's programming.

A big weekend on Yas Island

Peters' show rounds off a busy Abu Dhabi Showdown Week, which runs from 19 to 25 October, according to Time Out Dubai. The week's headline act is UFC 333 on Saturday, 24 October, with Alexander Volkanovski defending his featherweight title against Movsar Evloev and a bantamweight title trilogy bout between Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili — all at Etihad Arena. Looking ahead, Yas Island's calendar stays stacked: Hans Zimmer performs on 13 November, Turkish pop star Tarkan on 27 November and Arab music performer Ramy Sabry on 28 November.
