Taylor Swift Breaks VMA Records and Announces Surprise Encore Songs

Taylor Swift has added another milestone to an already record-heavy career. AP reported that the singer broke records at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the most-awarded artist in the ceremony's history — and she followed the night with a surprise announcement for fans.

A record that moves past Beyoncé

According to AP, Swift received the inaugural Artist Director Honors at this year's VMAs. The honour pushed her career total to 30 MTV Video Music Awards, AP reported, moving her past Beyoncé to become the most-awarded artist in VMA history. The new Artist Director Honors adds a first-of-its-kind category to that tally, recognising her work on the creative direction of her music videos.

Four new songs on the way

The record was not the only headline. AP reported that Swift surprised fans by announcing an expanded "Encore" edition of her album "The Life of a Showgirl", featuring four additional songs. Among them is a new track titled "Patient Zero", which AP reported is set for release on Friday. According to AP, the announcement arrived in suitably mysterious fashion, through a cryptic countdown published on her website — a reveal style her fanbase has come to watch closely whenever a new era approaches.

Back on stage with her band

In a separate report, IANS said Swift also recently performed with her band at an Academy Museum event in Los Angeles — her first performance with the band in almost two years, according to the report. IANS reported that she thanked the museum in an Instagram post following the event.

Taken together, the reports describe a busy stretch for the singer: a history-making awards night, new music days away, and a return to performing with the band behind her. As ever with Swift, each announcement tends to raise as many questions as it answers — and her audience would not have it any other way.
