Willson Contreras travelled to Florida to watch his younger brother William win the World Series — and celebrated wildly when Milwaukee clinched the title, People reported.

Willson, 34, a Boston Red Sox star, made the trip to Tropicana Field in Tampa on Wednesday, 28 October, when William’s Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 in Game 5 to win the franchise’s first World Series, People reported. Wearing his brother’s No. 24 Brewers jersey, Willson was seen jumping up and down as Milwaukee sealed the win, according to a social media video cited by People, and he high-fived the brothers’ older sibling Wilmer as the family celebrated among a strong contingent of Brewers fans.

Watching, Willson said, was harder than playing. “I get too nervous. I get anxious,” he told the Boston Globe, according to People, explaining that Game 5 was the first World Series game he had watched in person. “It’s not easy to sit out there and watch a World Series. It’s a lot different than playing.”

William, 28, the Brewers’ catcher, was named World Series MVP. People reported that he hit .373 across the postseason, with three home runs and nine runs batted in, and went 8 for 21 in the World Series itself. The Associated Press reported that he batted .381 in the Series, hit an RBI double in the clinching game, and won 10 of 13 automated ball-strike challenges.

“My brother’s my best friend”

Moments after lifting the MVP trophy, William embraced his older brother on the field, Sports Illustrated reported. “My brother’s my best friend,” William said, according to the Associated Press. Willson, beaming as his brother was named MVP, told People’s reporting: “It means a lot. He played the whole playoffs in such an amazing way. I mean MVP of the World Series? It means a lot to him; it means a lot to me, and it means a lot to our family.”

The title gave both brothers a World Series ring. Willson won his as a rookie catcher with the Chicago Cubs in 2016, People and Sports Illustrated reported, while William had already helped Venezuela win the World Baseball Classic in March, the Associated Press reported.

A family celebration

For the Contreras family, the night belonged to both brothers: one on the field, lifting a trophy, and one in the stands, in his brother’s jersey, jumping for joy when the final out was made.
